This Thursday will mark a year since politician, black, gay activist and councilwoman Marielle Franco and the driver that worked with her, Anderson Gomes, was assassinated in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Last 12 March, two alleged killers was arrested. Ronnie Lessa and Elcio Vieira de Queiroz. According to the investigations, Marielle was executed by a group known as “The Crime Bureau” – a organisation which commits murder at the bidding of politicians, criminals, right-wing paramilitary “militias”.
In the hours that followed the arrests of the alleged killers this week, a photograph began to circulate on social media showing Brazil’s president, Jair Bolsonaro, embracing one of the those men. And now, social and human rights movements want to know who ordered Marielle Franco’s murder?
Because of this question, several street demonstrations will take place in Brazil, in protest against this murder and to demand the punishment of the perpetrators of the crime.
CSP-Conlutas joins this action with those who fight to defend human rights, the workers, the people of the peripheries and who demand the immediate punishment of the constituents of Marielle and Anderson’s murder.
We invite our entities and affiliated movements to participate in the streets of March 14.
Justice for Marielle and Anderson.
