The newly elected president, Jair Bolsonaro (PSL) announced on Thursday (11) to take on an international agenda very similar to that of US President Donald Trump. Against United Nations (UN) resolutions, Brazil will become the tenth country to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
In an interview with the conservative daily Israel Hayom, Bolsonaro said that “Palestine must first be a state to have the right to have an embassy,” and that action is not just a promise of an election campaign.
Only nine countries recognize Jerusalem as capital of Israel: United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Paraguay and Togo. Of those opposed to the UN resolution, three, in fact, moved the embassy to Jerusalem – Guatemala, the United States and Paraguay.
Paraguay later returned to Tel Aviv, causing negative reaction in Israeli government.
Brazil election – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was one of the first to congratulate Bolsonaro on winning the election, and according to information published in the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper, there is a possibility that we may have his presence in presidential inauguration.
Salut to USA and Zionism – In 2017, the UN General Assembly adopted, by a large majority, a resolution condemning Washington’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Still, the US government continued its political approach to the Zionist regime, and in May of this year made the transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem.
Trump’s statement, recognizing the historical place as Israel’s capital, broke the international consensus that the status of Jerusalem would be determined by a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.
Israel has occupied the eastern part of the city since 1967 and annexed it in 1980. The situation of occupation and expansion of illegal settlements is a reason for recognition of the Jerusalem as Israeli capital to be so contradictory.
War industry and corruption – Bolsonaro’s interest in closer relations with Israel is not only political, although much has been advanced from this alignment in the process of criminalization of social movements under the same Zionist logic of repression.
Bolsonaro’s main articulator, Onyx Lorenzoni (DEM), received in 2014, for his campaign, as published by Agência Brasil, a donation of R $ 100,000 from two of Brazil’s largest arms and ammunition companies: the Companhia Brasileira de Cartriches (CBC) and Forjas Taurus AS. Four years earlier, Taurus spent R $ 150,000 for the Onyx campaign, an amount donated by the National Arms and Ammunition Industry Association.
In addition, the parliamentarian is the author of PL 5773/2013, which amends a decree law (2840) of 1940 and typifies the crime of terrorism in Brazil.
Another politician from the called bullet bench, deputy Alberto Fraga (DEM) a very close person to Bolsonaro, in 2014 received $ 80,000 in electoral donations from Forjas Taurus. Fraga’s corrupt history is extensive. In 2008, then Secretary of Transportation of the Federal District, received R $ 350,000 to sign contracts between the government and a transport cooperative. In 2013, he was sentenced to four years in prison for illegal possession of a weapon.
Repudiation – CSP-Conlutas repudiates Jair Bolsonaro’s statement and affirms that “the transfer of the embassy implies denying the Palestinian people’s historic rights to their lands, including the city of Jerusalem, endorsing all policies of apartheid and ethnic cleansing carried out by the racist state of Israel 70 years ago. ”
Brazil is already one of the main importers of Israel’s war equipment and security systems. Military relations between the two countries are responsible not only for the deaths of thousands of Palestinians fighting for their rights, but also for Brazilians, especially the young, the black and the poor.
The Palestinian-Brazilian journalist and writer Soraya Misleh points out the direct relationship with the violence suffered in our country, noting that “the militarization that maintain Zionist apartheid, colonization and occupation – and that extrapolates the federal scope, with state governments arming their police too through agreements with Israel – not only affects the Palestinians but also promotes indigenous and black genocide in the Brazilian peripheries. ”
Motion of Rejection
CSP-Conlutas, a Brazilian labor and people’s federation, repudiates the announcement by elected president Jair Bolsonaro of Brazilian embassy transfer from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
That transfer implies into denial of Palestinian people historical rights to their lands including Jerusalem, endorsing all policies of apartheid and ethnic cleansing carried out by the racist Israeli State for 70 years.
Bolsonaro not only despises both the rights of an oppressed people for self-determination and human rights altogether but also shows his complete submission to president Donald Trump who remained isolated internationally in his announcement of American embassy transfer to Jerusalem.
CSP-Conlutas calls all workers, people’s and democratic organizations to take a stand against the transfer of the Brazilian embassy to Jerusalém in solidarity with the Palestinian people!
Longlive The Struggle Of The Palestinian People!
Longlive The International Solidarity Among the Working Classes and the Oppressed Peoples!
